I think the process has been slow, but it started to be evident when we upgraded him from his infant car seat to the forward facing seat. He was only 11 months, but already to big for the little "egg" shaped seat and 26 lb,- to heavy to carry him around. It is also all about independence... he wants to do everything by himself now, specially eating (sort of messy by the way), he want to feed himself using a fork, and he is pretty good at it. With the spoon he needs some practice though. It also seems that everything that crosses his way is designed to be climbed. Before he turned one we went to a swimming pool party where older kids were playing. The babies had a little inflatable pool to splash, but he insisted in joining the big kids in the deep pool and play with all the cool toys. We finally let him. He moves a lot now when we try to change his diaper, I don't think he likes it that much, but he would start helping in the dressing/undressing process. His little personality is also starting to show, he is clear with things he likes and dislikes. For example, he hates oatmeal, I have tried the cereal several times -experts say not to give up, he will eventually eat it- but I really think he can't stand it. When he plays with his little dump truck, the 'dump case" has to be removed. He hates to be alone, loves to play, to swing and taking walks. When he needs something he calls mama and when he is happy and having fun he calls papa. He loves to be around kids specially Henry, he is like his little hero. It also seems that his attentions span is longer, he likes his videos and can watch more that 15 minutes in a stretch. Loves imitating faces/sounds, and definitely knows the meaning of "no".
The differences are not only in his behavior, but also in his looks. The "chubby" little baby is gone. I still remember the "fat rings" in his thighs and arms, they are almost gone. His cheeks are still big but believe me, they were bigger. And his face has definitely changed, he looks more like a little boy now. And he started to grow more hair!
I must say that there are some baby staples still left. He loves his mobile and can't go sleep until he has 3 pacifiers, one in his mouth and one in each hand.
My baby is going to be a big brother, even though I miss my little cuddly baby, I am enjoying every milestone he accomplishes, and hope he will share all his new "experiences" with his little brother and guide him through infancy. And of curse love him very much!

Rikard would never go to sleep without his three pacifiers when he was little, he used to have one in his mouth and one in each hand, rubbing his nose with! It is so sad that we live so far apart, I would love to be able to follow you guys a little closer, you know, visiting-distance. But, atleast I can follow you in pictures and blog now. :) Erik still want to work a year or two in the USA (or maybe England but I don't want to live there...) and I have suggested the University of Arkansas. He is... Uhm not thrilled about that for some reason... ;)
Karl is a special little guy! The new baby has a tough act to follow.
